The West Midlands is one of the most densely connected parts of the country, and one of the hardest to move a group around. Seven boroughs, three motorway corridors, a major international airport and a charging zone in the middle of Birmingham all sit within about twenty-five miles of each other.
Travel SOS provides coach and minibus hire with a driver across the whole region, from 8-seat minibuses through to 49-seat coaches, for groups that need to arrive together.

Where we cover
The West Midlands metropolitan county is made up of seven boroughs: Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton. We operate across all of them, and across the surrounding counties of Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
Our main local pages:
If your pickup point is not listed, that does not mean we do not cover it. We routinely collect from Wolverhampton, Dudley, West Bromwich, Sutton Coldfield, Redditch and the surrounding towns. Tell us the postcode, and we will price it.
Choosing between a minibus and a coach
The most common question we get is what size vehicle a group actually needs. As a rough guide:
| Group size | Vehicle | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 8 to 12 | Minibus | Airport runs, small corporate groups, family occasions |
| 14 to 16 | Standard minibus | Wedding shuttles, sports teams, day trips |
| 17 to 24 | Midi coach | School trips, club outings, larger corporate transfers |
| 25 to 49 | Full-size coach | Conferences, whole-year school trips, festival groups |
Two things are worth knowing before you decide.
First, luggage takes space. A group of sixteen going to the airport for a fortnight needs more hold capacity than sixteen going to a football match, and sometimes that means stepping up a vehicle size rather than filling every seat.
Second, some pickup points cannot physically take a full-size coach. Narrow residential streets, low bridges and tight hotel forecourts all limit access. If you tell us the pickup address when you enquire, we will flag any access problem before you book rather than on the morning.
What we are hired for across the region
Airport transfers. Birmingham Airport sits between Solihull and Coventry, and is the natural departure point for most of the region. We also run long-distance transfers to Heathrow, Manchester, East Midlands and the London airports.
Corporate and conference travel. The NEC campus alone draws hundreds of thousands of trade show visitors a year, and delegate transport from city centre hotels is one of our steadiest workstreams. See our corporate travel service for account bookings.
School and college trips. From day visits to Cadbury World and Warwick Castle to residential trips further afield. All our drivers are DBS-checked.
Weddings. Guest shuttles between ceremony, reception and hotels, usually with multiple pickup points across the region.
Sport and events. Villa Park, Molineux, The Hawthorns, Edgbaston, the Coventry Building Society Arena and the racecourses at Uttoxeter, Warwick and Wolverhampton.
Days out and group leisure. Alton Towers, Drayton Manor, Blackpool, the Peak District and the Cotswolds are all comfortable day-trip range from the West Midlands.

Driving in the West Midlands: the Clean Air Zone
This is the practical detail most groups do not think about until it costs them money.
Birmingham operates a Class D Clean Air Zone covering all roads inside the A4540 Middleway ring road, though not the Middleway itself. It runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and is enforced by number plate recognition cameras with no barriers.
Non-compliant vehicles pay a daily charge: £8 for cars, vans and taxis, and £50 for coaches, buses and HGVs. Miss the payment window and the penalty is £120, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days. You can check any vehicle and pay through the GOV.UK Clean Air Zone service.
Why this matters for group travel: a party of twenty-four arriving in the city centre in six cars faces six separate assessments, and any non-compliant vehicle among them picks up a charge. A single compliant coach carries the whole group for nothing. Our fleet meets the emissions standard, so there is no Clean Air Zone charge passed on to you.
The same principle applies further afield. Groups heading to London face the Ultra Low Emission Zone in a car, whereas coaches and larger minibuses fall under the separate Low Emission Zone, which a modern Euro VI vehicle already meets.
Why use a regional operator
The West Midlands road network is unforgiving if you do not know it. The M6 through Birmingham is one of the busiest stretches in the country, the M5 and M6 interchange at Ray Hall backs up at predictable times, and the A38(M) Aston Expressway reverses lanes through the day.
Our drivers work these roads daily. That means realistic departure times rather than optimistic ones, sensible alternatives when the M6 stops, and pickup points chosen because a coach can actually get to them.
All our hire includes a driver. We do not offer self-drive, which means you are not responsible for the vehicle, the licensing, the emissions compliance or the parking. For larger groups and corporate work, our luxury minibus hire fleet offers upgraded seating, and wheelchair accessible vehicles are available across the region so nobody in your party has to travel separately.
Frequently asked questions
Do you cover the whole West Midlands? Yes, all seven metropolitan boroughs plus the surrounding counties. Tamworth, for instance, sits in Staffordshire but is well within our normal operating area.
What is the smallest group you take? Our smallest vehicles seat eight. Below that, a taxi is usually more economical.
Is hire priced per person or per vehicle? Per vehicle. The quote covers the journey, so filling more seats reduces the cost per head.
Can you collect from several addresses? Yes. Multi-pickup routing across the region is standard on group bookings and does not usually add much to the journey time if the addresses are planned in a sensible order.
How far in advance should we book? For weddings, school trips and event weekends, as early as possible, since demand clusters around the same dates. Airport transfers and corporate bookings can often be arranged at shorter notice.
